Thomas Kelly, Jr. has practiced law in Sonoma County and surrounding counties for over 55 years. As a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and University of Texas School of Law, he was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1960.
Tom served as Captain in the Judge Advocate Department of the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1964, including a tour of duty in Saigon in 1963 and 1964. Tom remained in the Air Force Reserves after his release from active duty and retired in 1991 with the rank of Colonel. Upon his return from Vietnam in 1964, Tom was employed as an attorney for the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1965.
In 1967, Tom joined the Santa Rosa law firm of Anderson, McDonald and Belden. He became a partner in 1970 and the firm was thereafter known as Anderson, McDonald, Belden and Kelly. He was a partner in that firm and successive firms until 1998, at which time he commenced practice alone.
Tom Kelly, Jr. shares an office with his son, Thomas P. Kelly III, and occasionally with his son, John A. Kelly. Tom's daughter, Heather Kelly Trachtenberg, is an attorney in Houston, Texas.
Tom was a member of the faculty that founded Empire College of Law in 1972. He taught courses in contracts, corporations, partnerships, agency and securities regulations at Empire College from 1972 to 1986.
Tom's areas in practice span estate planning and wills; construction and contract law; business formation and corporate law; and civil litigation. His tremendous legal background is coupled with his focus on understanding his client's needs and concerns to help them achieve their aims swiftly and to their satisfaction.
